SPECIAL TREASURES is a workforce development program addressing the critical challenges youth in Iredell County face when they age out of foster care without the skills or support needed to succeed in life. HATL’s grants have helped these young people pursue their dreams while building meaningful skills that positively impact our community.

 

Special Treasures is a working thrift store that provides hands-on job training in customer service, finance and store operations equipping youth with practical skills, steady income, tutoring and constant mentorship from volunteers. Store revenue helps fund wages for youth, provides internships, continued education, and matched savings for transportation, housing and other essentials. To meet the growing demand, Special Treasures recently purchased the historic Gordon Building in downtown Statesville. The space lacked proper heating and air, so HATL was able to provide immediate financial support to help fund a new HVAC system.
